Ed Book was first elected to the Gainesville City Commission in November 2022.
Education - Obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences as a psychology major in 1984 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership through the University of Florida in 2003.
Over a 40 year span in North Central Florida, he has been involved in many service and non-profit efforts, and community and professional organizations locally, throughout Florida, and nationally. These include difference-making organizations such as Keep Alachua County Beautiful, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the United Way. He remains a very active long-term member of Rotary holding many previous Club and District positions.
Currently employed at Santa Fe College since 2011 where he is the Emergency Manager. He also is an adjunct instructor teaching primarily to public safety recruits and serves in many other capacities. Ed is the Chief of Police at Santa Fe College and retired previously from the Gainesville Police Department as District Commander and Captain after a 26 ½ year career.
His immediate family includes wife Lori, a retired public-school teacher, son Daniel and daughter Alexandra.
