Housing Equity Plan and Closing the Gap

As a grant recipient of federal funds through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City of Gainesville has committed to affirmatively furthering fair housing and making concerted efforts to combat housing discrimination against protected classes. The city is currently developing a Housing Equity Plan which examines barriers to fair housing and identifies priorities and goals to mitigate fair housing issues as required under the federal Fair Housing Act and state and local law.

The City of Gainesville will further support access to equitable housing by making efforts to close the gap to homeownership for racial/ethnic minorities through the preparation of a Homeownership Equity Profile. This analysis is intended to result in impactful recommendations for racial equity in homeownership for the city.

To determine potential fair housing issues in Gainesville, the city encourages neighbors, housing and homeless partners, non-profit service providers, neighborhood associations, realtors, lending institutions, developers, and other stakeholders to join us to help identify community assets, fair housing strengths, and disparities in housing equity. With this information, the plan will recommend the best course of action for eliminating any impediments to fair housing choice, particularly for members of protected classes.
