Fire services date back to the late 1800's in Gainesville and were volunteer-based for many years. Gainesville Fire Rescue replaced horse-drawn pumpers in 1917 and became a fully-paid fire department in 1925. Link to see some FIRE SERVICE TRADITIONS(PDF, 136KB)

Gainesville's Fire Protection Classification Rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), effective September 1, 2014, is Two/Two-X (2/2X). The City was surveyed in 2019 and kept the 2/2X Rating. Undeveloped areas on the north side of Gainesville may not be within the geographic area designated as FPC 2. Please call 352-334-5078 with an address if you need us to check.
