Fall Lessons

Fall Swim Lessons
Registration begins Aug. 1

Fees:  City residents:  $57; non-city residents: $70. Proof of residency (GRU bill or voter ID) is required at time of registration.

Ages:

  •  Pre-school: 3–5 years
  • Learn to swim: 6–12 years
  • Adult beginner: 13 years and older

Swim test:  If you are unsure of what level your child should be in for swim lessons, please take a swim test at either pool, Monday–Friday, 4 –7 p.m. This swim test only takes 5 minutes. If you choose not to take a swim test, we reserve the right to move your child into the appropriate level or refund your money if the class is full.

Exit skills assessment: All children with exception of Aqua Babies must pass an exit skills assessment on the last day of class to determine if they are able to move up to the next level. Instructors will notify parents on student’s progression throughout the session.

Summer Lessons

Summer Swim Lessons

  • Pre-School: 3–5 years
  • Learn to Swim: 6–12 years
  • Adult Beginner: 13 years and older

Swim Test:  If you are unsure of what level your child should be place in for swim lessons, swim tests are available at either pool, Monday–Friday, 4 – 7 p.m. This swim test should only take about 5 minutes. Ages

Aqua Babies for Ages 6 months–3 Years

This program builds swimming readiness while emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills which include bubble blowing, front and back kicking and floating, underwater exploration and more. It is NOT designed to teach children to become good swimmers or survive in the water on their own.

Preschool Level 1 for Ages 3–5 Years

Beginner level where child still needs instructor support in the water. Skills covered will be blowing bubbles, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, back float and begin necessary arm and leg actions for swimming.

Preschool Level 2 for Ages 3–5 Years

Passed Preschool Level 1. Child is comfortable in the water, can float on back for 3 seconds or more and glide from the wall to the instructor 3-5 yards. Skills covered will be bobbing, opening eyes underwater, treading water, and swimming 3-5 yards.

Preschool Level 3 for Ages 3–5 Years

Passed Preschool Level 2. Child is comfortable in the water, can glide on back and swim independently for 5-10 feet including rolling on back and floating for 15 seconds. Skills covered will be jumping in, fully submerge and hold breath for 10 seconds, rotary breathing, and swimming on back.

Learn to Swim Level 1 for Ages 6–12 Years

Beginner level where child still needs instructor support in the water. Skills covered will be blowing bubbles, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, back float and begin necessary arm and leg actions for swimming on front and back.

Learn to Swim Level 2 for Ages 6–12 Years

Passed Learn to Swim Level 1. Child is comfortable in the water, can float on back for 5 seconds or more and glide from the wall to the instructor 3-5 yards. Skills covered will be bobbing, opening eyes underwater, treading water, and swimming using rotary breathing.

Learn to Swim Level 3 for Ages 6–12 Years

Passed Learn to Swim Level 2 OR Pre-School Level 3. Child can tread water for 15 seconds, float on back for 15 seconds, and swim 15-20 feet. Skills covered will be jumping into deep water, diving, survival float, front crawl with rotary breathing and elementary backstroke.

Learn to Swim Level 4/5 for Ages 6–12 Years

Passed Learn to Swim Level 3 or 4. Child is an independent swimmer, can tread and float for 1 minute, elementary backstroke and front crawl with rotary breathing for 25 yards. Skills covered will be breaststroke, backstroke, intro to butterfly, sidestroke and swimming underwater.

Adult - 13 Years and Older

It is never too late to learn to swim or to improve your strokes. This class can be tailored to your specific needs. Whether you’re a beginner learning to put your face in the water or you want to refine your stroke to be more efficient for swimming for exercise, our instructors are patient and will work with you on your individual needs.
