The City of Gainesville maintains over 800 lane miles of paved roadway, including 300 miles of roadways with curbs and gutters. Curb and guttered streets are the focus of street sweeping activities in order to remove debris that could cause flooding by plugging storm drains. City streets are maintained by four street sweepers and two dump trucks. Street sweeping activity is responsible for removing approximately 15,000 cubic yards of debris from our roadways annually.

Frequently Asked Questions
The entire city is swept monthly by zones which rotate around the trash pick-up schedule. Interruptions of the zone schedule may be caused by an emergency, such as inclement weather conditions or equipment repairs.
Occasionally, equipment breakdown, holidays and cars parked in the right of way may force the sweeper to miss an assigned area. If a street is missed, it will be swept during the next scheduled pass. Streets without curb and gutter are not swept.
