Building Inspections

Inspections.jpg Inspections are the quality assurance part of the customer service we provide to our community. A passed inspection means that an inspector, certified by the State of Florida, has checked the work of the licensed contractor or "owner builder" and determined that the work performed complies with the codes in effect at the time of the inspection.

Scheduling Inspections

Inspections can be requested by using our online portal, through email, or by phone. Inspections can only be requested by the permit holder, or an authorized affiliate. Scheduled times for inspections are not permitted, but an AM or PM preference can be requested.

If you need an after-hours inspection, please email your request to building@gainesvillefl.gov at least two business days before the proposed inspection. Once the inspection has been approved by the Chief Inspector and the $180 inspection fee has been paid, the inspection will then be scheduled.

Online

Inspections can be scheduled online through PermitGNVInspections scheduled online can be requested up until midnight the day before the proposed inspection.

Virtual Inspections

The Building Division offers virtual inspections for AC/water heater changeouts, and window/door replacements. Through this option, the contractor and residents can coordinate and plan a scheduled inspection time.

Virtual inspections allow the installer and the city inspector to communicate through a smart phone or tablet in real time via Skype or FaceTime.
