Project Description

The SW 62nd Blvd Connector will connect Clark Butler Boulevard with the southern end of SW 52nd Street, a length of 0.8 miles. The roadway will consist of two 11-foot travel lanes, 7-foot buffered bicycle lanes on each side and a 10-foot multi-use path on the east side. This project will include a bridge over Hogtown Creek and two stormwater ponds.  

Project Timeline  

Currently Clark Butler Blvd/SW 43^rd St is closed from SW 42^nd St to SW 24^th Ave; traffic is being detoured via SW 24^th Ave and Plaza Blvd. The closure is scheduled to re-open by the end of July. We advise those traveling the area to plan for delays.

Project Description

This project primarily includes roadway resurfacing between SW 20th Lane and SW 22nd Lane, adding bike lanes, a southbound to eastbound left-turn bay at SW 21st Place, and limiting SW 20th Lane to right-in/right-out turning movements. The project also includes concrete sidewalk to close the gap on the west side of the roadway between SW 20th Lane and SW 22nd Lane and adding an ADA compliant bus boarding and a lighting area at SW 20th Lane.

Project Description

Project Description

This project consists of the improvement of ADA curb ramps on NE 8^th Ave from Waldo Rd to NE 24^th Terrace. Other additions will include striping removal, restriping of crosswalks, and a proposed midblock crosswalk at NE 19^th Terrace crossing NE 8^th Ave.

Project Description

This project primarily consists of resurfacing approximately 1 ½ miles of roadway from just north of SW 20th Avenue to just south of Newberry Road. Some new paved shoulders will also be constructed along the roadway where there is no curb and gutter. Other improvements include ADA compliant bus stop pads and mid-block crosswalks with flashing beacons.

Project Description

The SW 27th Street Multi-use Trail project consists of the construction of an 8-foot bicycle and pedestrian facility along the east side of SW 27th Street, south side of SW 40th Place, and west side of SW 25th Terrace.

Project Description

The objective of this project is to reconstruct SE 4th Street from Depot Avenue to Williston Road. The Sweetwater Branch culvert underpass failed during the 2004 hurricanes, which impact this corridor. Therefore, it is currently proposed to be replaced with a higher capacity underpass. Improvements will also include:  the addition of bike lanes, addition of sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, ADA accessibility upgrades as necessary, Sweetwater Branch culvert underpass replacement, stormwater treatment, street lighting, and aesthetic upgrades.

Project Update: 05/2022

There will be a roadway closure while the speed table at the trail crossing is being constructed. Closure anticipated May 25, 2022 - June 17, 2022.

Project Update: 01/2022

Work has resumed on the SE 4th Street Reconstruction project. Northbound and southbound lanes are now open for travel. Please anticipate short-term closures as construction activities continue.

Project Update: 09/2021

The original contractor is unable to complete the project, the hiring of a new contractor will happen at no additional costs to the city. It is anticipated that the project will take another six months to complete.

Project Update: 06/2020

Phase II roadway work is ongoing to construct the northbound travel lane. Traffic is currently open to northbound travel only. Depot Park will continue to be accessible from Depot Ave.

Once the new northbound lane is completed, Phase III will begin to construct the new southbound lane. During this Phase, traffic will continue to be open to northbound travel only. Depot Park will continue to be accessible from Depot Ave.

The current anticipated completion of the project is Fall 2020.

Project Update: 07/2019

July 8, 2019, reconstruction of the SE 4th St roadway between Depot Ave and Williston Road will begin.

The phase 1 traffic control plan is a full closure at the Sweet Water Branch Creek to allow for the installation of a large box culvert. Through traffic will need to use Williston Road to bypass the construction area.

Project Update: 03/2019

The Public Works Department brought forth the bid award for the reconstruction of S.E. 4th Street on November 16th, 2017.  The City Commission has directed the Public Works Department and GRU to underground the existing overhead utilities.

The utility work will be completed to the point where the Contractor can begin work within the next 30 days.

Project Update: 08/2018

The design phase and construction procurement for this project was completed in the Fall of 2017. The City Commission also directed the conversion of the existing overhead utilities to underground. Roadway construction will begin as soon as the utility work is finished and will last approximately 12 months.

Project Description

Bike facility implementation along the north side of the road, from NW 13th St to NW 16th Ter, extending connectivity of the bicycle network. Project follows the recommendations of the Alachua County Bicycle Master Plan Addendum for the Glen Springs Braid, tying into the bicycle boulevard and trail system east of NW 13th St. An 8’ wide concrete path will be constructed between NW 16th Terrace and NW 13th Street.

Project Description

Our scope of work includes making Archer Road from the intersection of SW 16th Avenue to SW 13th Street more like a campus roadway – we will be milling and resurfacing the entire corridor, tapering/removing medians, increasing turn lane storage, improving ADA access, adding in road bike lanes, replacing 2 span wire signalized intersections with mast arms, adding LED lighting and posting the speed limit at 20mph.

Project Update: 05/2019

The project is approximately 75% completed. The Contractor has indicated they will be substantially completed in late June ‘19. Work will continue in the median areas of the roadway for the next few weeks. Periodic lane closures will be set up between SW 16th Avenue and SW 13th Street, Sunday-Thursday, 8:30 p.m. - 6 a.m.

Project Description

This project will mill and resurface NW 16th Terrace from NW 16th Avenue to NW 23rd Avenue.  All existing asphalt will be milled and resurfaced with new asphalt. The scope of work also includes replacing the existing school zone signs with new signs with solar powered flashing beacons.  Improvements to the pavement markings and new signage is also included.

Construction work is progressing as scheduled. Southbound lane was paved July 22, 2019, and the Northbound lane will be paved July 23, 2019.  Signs and the new School Zone flashing beacons will be installed after the road is resurfaced and flashing beacons delivered.

A Pre-Construction meeting was held with the Contractor on July 10, 2019, to review final plans prior to starting construction. Message Boards and Construction signs will be installed and completed by July 16th with milling and resurfacing scheduled to start on Friday, July 19th. The milling and resurfacing is scheduled for completion by August 1st, with remaining work substantially complete by August 9th.

Project Description

The City Commission has envisioned a revitalization of the Depot Avenue neighborhoods and has provided a major investment in the Depot Park development, the site of a historic train depot and stormwater park. The Depot Avenue corridor provides a linkage between many historic neighborhoods, major employment centers, and several recreational parks. Improving the Depot Avenue corridor into a multi-modal transportation corridor will provide critical linkages for all modes of travel to the historic Cotton Club neighborhood, the Rosa Parks Downtown Transit Station, the Depot Park, the historic Porter’s neighborhood, high-density student residential housing, medical facilities, and the University of Florida.

This phase of the project proposes to reconstruct the road between SE 7th Street and Williston Road with brick sidewalks, decorative LED lighting, and creek culvert rehabilitation. Specific design considerations were given to save Live Oaks and implement sidewalks adjacent to the historic Cotton Club.

Project Update: 10/2017

Construction is well underway on this project. Work progress to date includes the reconstruction of the culverts at the Sweetwater Branch creek crossing, upgraded stormwater conveyance system (about 60% complete), new concrete curb and gutter (about 25% complete), and road bed preparation (about 25% complete). Upcoming tasks in the near future include continuation of the curb and gutter, driveways, stormwater system, and road preparation as well as getting started on the brick sidewalks, decorative streetlights, and road paving. The project is on schedule to be completed in Spring 2018. 

Project Description

The primary objective of this project is to reconstruct West 6th Street between SW 5th Avenue and University Avenue. Other components include reconstructing existing sidewalks in compliance with current width and side slope requirements, adding concrete curb and gutter in areas that currently have roadside drainage, landscaping improvements including low impact development techniques, a large stormwater pipe upgrade, and a proposed roundabout at the intersection of SW 6th Street and 4th Avenue.

The project was bid out in the summer of 2017 and Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. was determined to be the lowest responsible, responsive bidder as stipulated by the City’s competitive bidding process.  Construction is anticipated to begin in November of 2017 and complete in the fall of 2018.

Project Description

This project is a multi-use trail from NW 45th Ave to NW 39th Ave. This is an extension of an existing trail that runs parallel to the Norton Elementary School site from NW 45th Ave to NW 53rd Ave.

Project Update: 06/2017

This project is currently in the design phase and construction is anticipated to begin in Late 2017.

Project Description

The project consists of the stabilization and restoration of a heavily eroded segment of Beville Creek which flows through the Suburban Heights neighborhood. The restoration activities included the construction of a series of armored step pools and one cascade feature known as Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance. Additional stabilization improvements include gabion baskets, Flexamat, rolled erosion control blanket and native seeding and planting. The proposed work limits begin south of NW 14th Avenue and continue south and east approximately 1000 feet into Cofrin Nature Park. Beville Creek provides wildlife with a connection from Cofrin Park to Kingwood Lake. In order to reduce erosion, provide a more aesthetic drainage corridor for residents and promote the health of the creek system the City restored the creek as an open channel, which mimics the Cofrin Park creek restoration project that took place in 2015.

Project Timeline

The Suburban Heights Beville Creek Restoration Project was completed in December 2017.

Project Update:

Construction began in early April and was nearly complete in early September, before Hurricane Irma struck. Hurricane Irma caused a substantial amount of damage to the project site as vegetation had not had time to fully establish on the newly rebuilt creek banks. From mid-September until early October the design team worked on a plan forward and made modifications to the design. The Contractor, Landshore Enterprises, remobilized to the site in November and needed approximately 6 weeks to reconstruct areas that experienced severe erosion during Hurricane Irma.

Project Update:

The project was put out to bid in January and went to the City Commission for approval in February of 2017. It was determined through the City’s competitive procurement process that Landshore Enterprises, LLC was the lowest responsive, responsible bidder.
