The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, Cultural Affairs Division is seeking artists for the Thomas Center Gallery exhibition Serenity – Art in Meditation.

Project Details

The Historic Thomas Center Galleries is seeking artists for the summer exhibition: Serenity – Art in Meditation. The exhibition features original artwork and explores how the creation of art is used to promote mind, body and spirit in various forms of meditation. Open to all mediums. Selected artists will receive an honorarium for their participation.

Artists are expected to participate in the opening, artist talks and demonstrations at the Thomas Center that represent the medium and/or theme of the show. Artists are responsible for the cost of transporting artwork and installation selected for exhibition, and must be present at the opening reception.

Installation and Gallery Dates

May 30 – Aug. 30, 2025

Artwalk Dates

Fridays, June 27, July 25 and Aug. 22

Artist Eligibility

  1. Open to artists in Gainesville and Alachua County, Florida. Must be 18 years or older.
  2. Emerging artists with a portfolio demonstrating work related to meditation are encouraged to apply.
  3. Professional artists with a minimum of five years of exhibition in galleries or museums are encouraged to apply.

Submission Should Include

  1. Artist statement, including how the submitted work fits the theme.
  2. Resume
  3. Images, and an image list with prices and sizes in a multi-page PDF file for our gallery committee to review. Please label each pice of artwork with the title, medium and dimensions. A minimum of six images and a maximum of 12 images should be submitted. Work must be framed and ready for installation.

Submission Deadline: Friday, Feb. 7, 2025

Selection Process

Artist’s submissions will be reviewed and selected by a panel of judges. You will be notified by Saturday, March 1, 2025.
