Cancelled: March 13 Prescribed Burn at Morningside Nature Center

Update: Conditions are not favorable and the prescribed burn is cancelled for today.

 

A prescribed burn is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2025, weather and site conditions permitting, at Morningside Nature Center (3540 East University Avenue) beginning at 11 a.m. and ending before 5 p.m. This is an ecological fuel reduction burn, which will be conducted with support from the Florida Forest Service (FFS). All public access to the park and living history farm will be prohibited during the burn.

In an effort to promote public safety, and to restore and maintain the health of our natural resources, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs staff work closely with the FFS, the University of Florida (UF), Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), as well as the Gainesville Police and Fire Rescue departments.
