City, community partners host three affordable housing workshops this
Published on May 06, 2022
The City of Gainesville and community partners invite all neighbors to three affordable housing workshops in May that are designed to generate discussion and feedback about strategies to improve affordable housing in the community.
The workshops also offer the opportunity for city staff and community partners to share information about existing housing resources and programs with neighbors.
Initiatives to be discussed on May 9 and May 21 include community land trusts, first-time homebuyer programs, infill housing, housing vouchers, the city’s rental housing program and more. Inclusionary zoning and exclusionary zoning will be the focus of the May 17 workshop.
Community partners include the Alachua County Housing Authority, Bright Community Trust, GAI, Gainesville Housing Authority, HR&A, Neighborhood Housing and Development Corporation and Rebuilding Together North Central Florida.
When and where:
Monday, May 9 from 6-9 p.m.
GRU Multipurpose room, 301 SE Fourth Ave.
Tuesday, May 17 from 6-9 p.m.
Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center, 837 SE Seventh Ave.
Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
A. Quinn Jones Auditorium, 1108 NW Seventh Ave.
Each workshop begins with an overview of housing initiatives and a summary of community feedback gathered to date. These are followed by breakout sessions for neighbors to learn more about specific housing topics and share in-group discussions. There also will be interactive sessions for participants to provide feedback on affordable housing solutions. The comments will be compiled into a future report to be presented to the city commission.
To help ensure public health and safety, neighbors are asked to practice social distancing at the event. For more information, contact Karissa Raskin at 352-262-6075 or Raskink1@gainesvillefl.gov.
