The City of Gainesville has launched a new high-definition video channel, GNV TV, available via the Internet using Roku or Amazon Fire TV streaming devices. Users can find the new channel by searching “GNV TV” or “Gainesville” on the devices.
GNV TV livestreams Gainesville City Commission meetings and workshops. While these meetings are also broadcast on Community 12TV – the local government access cable channel operated jointly by the city and Alachua County – GNV TV provides viewers on-demand access to recordings of recent workshops and meetings.
“Offering an on-demand streaming service is a huge public benefit for low cost,” said Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward. “And if there’s ever a scheduling conflict with another government meeting on Community 12TV, GNV TV provides another way to watch city government in action,” he said.
Following a one-time, set-up charge of $2,500, platform maintenance fees are expected to cost $500 per year. An annual $2,400 cloud-based storage fee is split evenly with Alachua County.
GNV TV also continuously streams Community 12TV, and offers videos highlighting city programs, events and initiatives. City commission meetings can be viewed on the city’s website and on the GNV Commission Live Facebook page. Additional public meetings can be found archived on the city’s website.
