Ironwood Golf Course repair and reconstruction update
Published on January 30, 2025
The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) is updating residents on repair and reconstruction efforts currently underway at Ironwood Golf Course.
Ongoing improvements — some planned, others the result of weather events and water intrusion — have touched virtually every aspect of the city facility. Golfers have noted the volume of work along with the delays, and many are wondering about the completion date.
“We’ve received an influx of feedback in the past few days, asking why the course and clubhouse aren’t in their usual condition,” said PRCA Director Roxy Gonzalez. “It’s a fair question. We thank our community for their continued support and patience, and we hope this status report will give golfers an idea of what to expect over the next several weeks.”
Course Upgrade
Ironwood is in a reconstruction phase but recent weather conditions have impacted the original timeline. Winter rye grass was seeded on December 30, 2024. Due to several days of freezing conditions in January, the seeds have been slow to germinate. The more recent trend to warmer weather will improve growth and enhance playing conditions. The new superintendent is actively implementing changes to enhance everyone’s experience.
Clubhouse and Bar
The city has leased the bar to a new company and the transition process is nearly complete. The company is in the final phase prior to opening, undergoing inspections and obtaining all necessary licensing.
Restroom Update
Two weeks ago, a plumbing failure led to water intrusion in the clubhouse restrooms, administrative offices, banquet room and front entrance. Repairs were begun immediately. This includes removing flooring and drywall followed by new installation and inspections. Both restrooms have reopened while other repairs continue.
New Carts
The city’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget for Ironwood includes funding for new golf carts. The staff is pleased to share news that this purchase is underway.
“We acknowledge the challenges,” said PRCA Director Gonzalez. “But we’re confident Ironwood will come through this better than ever. Your experience matters to us. Thank you for understanding as we do the work needed to keep Ironwood a community gem well into the future.”
