Downtown street to remain closed to traffic; road renovations approved

Changes are coming to the “Streatery” downtown, after the Gainesville City Commission today approved a plan for road repair and construction to SW 1st Avenue, between S. Main Street and SW 2nd Street. The renovations will transform the downtown corridor into a walkable thoroughfare designed to better host art festivals, farmers markets, food-truck rallies and other activities.

GNV to add ADA improvements to 100 Regional Transit System bus stops

The City of Gainesville’s Regional Transit System (RTS) is improving 100 city bus stops to make public transportation more comfortable and convenient for all neighbors. This extended project, which is budgeted at $1,990,569, is funded through grants from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Gainesville and UF extend RTS service agreement through year’s end

Today’s negotiations between the City of Gainesville and the University of Florida regarding the Regional Transit System (RTS) were cordial and productive. Discussions were had regarding the current funding model and whether that model should be modified to reflect changes in demographics around the university.
