Amenities include a pavilion, picnic tables, and grills to enjoy cookouts. There is a playground for children to climb and play on. Dogs are allowed with leashes. No parking; pedestrian access only.
Barbara Higgins, the park's namesake, was the first African-American woman to work as a professional in the Alachua County Courthouse and was the Deputy Supervisor of Elections until she retired after 30 years of service.
In partnership with Lowe’s and the Neighborhood Housing Development Corporation, a clean-up day took place on June 7, 2019. New benches, tables and a grill were installed and fresh mulch was added at the playground. The project cost was $9,845.
