Carolyn Beatrice Parker Park

Beatrice Barker Park_c.jpg

Carolyn Beatrice Parker Park will delight children with its colorful playground featuring a variety of slides. Outdoor musical instruments, that kids will make their own kind of music with, and basketball courts are ready for play. Relax on area benches or under the shady pavilion that provides a covered area out of the rain and hot summer sun. There is also a grassy field to enjoy; all surrounded by a new decorative fence.

In 2022, the School Board of Alachua County renamed a school and this park for Carolyn Beatrice Parker. An accomplished research physicist, Ms. Parker was the first African American woman known to receive a graduate degree in physics.  She entered the physics graduate program at M.I.T., where she earned a second master’s degree in physics and completed coursework for a Ph.D.  Ms. Parker was elected to the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society.
