John Mahon Nature Park

John Mahone.jpg

Located just off Newberry Road, visitors will breathe easy in this woodland oasis. John Mahon Nature Park features a 0.3-mile trail looping through the forest. Visitors may enjoy an upland mixed forest, a hydric hammock, and a former upland pine forest as they hike these woodland paths. This shady walking trail is popular for birdwatching, so don’t forget your binoculars!

The park serves as a memorial to Dr. John Mahon who worked tirelessly to preserve large areas of Paynes Prairie, San Felasco Hammock, and the Hogtown Creek Greenway as natural public lands. Dr. Mahon devoted a substantial part of his life to public service and was well-respected and active in many conservation organizations.

Parking and park entrance is at the southwest end of the LifeSouth parking lot. Dogs on leashes are welcome.
