A woodsy, bear-themed playground welcomes visitors to Smokey Bear Park. Swirly slides, swinging bridges, and a host of climbing features will delight kids of all ages. You can stroll along the wooded, quarter-mile walking trail or play with your dog at the off-leash dog-park area. Take advantage of the green space for Frisbee and other games. A pavilion is provided for shelter; complete with picnic tables and barbecue grills. Feel free to relax and breathe in the natural surroundings on the park benches.
Neighbors are welcome to pick and enjoy their fair share of mulberries, peaches and loquats in Gainesville’s edible grove contained in this park.

The park is named for Smokey Bear, the mascot for the US Forest Service. The Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention Campaign, created in 1944, informs people of all ages about their role in preventing wildfires.
The park was renovated in 2015. The $350,000 renovation project, which includes the land purchase, was paid with funds from Wild Spaces and Public Places. In 2017, additional park renovations were completed with WSPP funds at a cost of $175,000.
