The Wilhelmina Johnson Cultural Center was built in the early 1900’s and has served as a fire house, a recreation center and a community resource center. The facility has been home to the Gainesville Cultural Arts Coalition since 1986 and manages the facility in partnership with the City of Gainesville.
This historic dance company, Lavern Porter Dancers, have used the facility as a rehersal space since the 1980s. The dance company typically holds classes Mondays and Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Swing in Motion holds dance classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
While CAC encourages groups with arts-oriented programming to use the facilities, community organizations also hold regular meetings here. Special programs can be hosted at the facilities ranging from baby showers, to birthday parties to dinners to wakes.
