The comprehensive plan identifies a community's resources and the long range community needs and goals. The City of Gainesville is in the process of evaluating and updating its Comprehensive Plan, as required by Florida Statute, this effort is ImagineGNV: The Comprehensive Plan 2050.

On Thursday, May 14th, 2026, the City Commission received an update from City Planning Staff on ImagineGNV, including providing updated draft documents, which are able to be accessed at the drop down below. City Staff and City Commissioners agreed to postpone formal adoption of ImagineGNV until the challenges of Senate Bill 180 are addressed at the State level, which is forecasted to October 2027, but is subject to change and not within the City’s control. In the meantime, we encourage our neighbors and community to view the most updated draft documents and send any questions, concerns, or feedback our way using the contact information at the bottom of the page.
