The city works to ensure orderly growth and to maintain the character and stability of present and future land use and development through comprehensive planning. The comprehensive plan identifies a community's resources and the long range community needs and goals. It provides a process for developing community consensus and for local governments to consider the human, environmental, social, and economic impacts of future commercial and residential land use.
Over the past year, City of Gainesville departments have partnered with communities historically left out of the planning process, including predominantly Black communities. Together, we have identified how current city policies and actions reinforce racial inequity and are working to lift up policies and practices that will broaden access to affordable homes, quality education, good paying jobs and thriving neighborhoods.
Imagine GNV lays out priorities and actions the city can take over the next decade to reinvest in marginalized communities, address the historic and current impacts of structural racism, and guide decisions affecting nearly every aspect of life in Gainesville.
